Chocolate and Your Health

I was just talking to a lady on the phone this evening about healthy chocolate and like so many other people I talk to, she said chocolate was her favorite food. She couldn't understand how it could be healthy. I can relate. For most of us, our entire life we have been told not to eat chocolate. The reasons varied from "chocolate makes me break out" to "it has too much caffeine" or "I'm diabetic" and even "I'm on a diet". Do any of those sound familiar?

In reality, like many other foods today, the original form of chocolate, or the cacao bean, is good for you. True, what we find on the shelf at grocery stores is probably not good for you. That chocolate more than likely has fillers, and sugars and milk and many other additives to make it taste better. The cocoa powder is also alkalized to remove the bitter taste. All of these things take away the nutritional value of the chocolate.

Some companies have attempted to create a healthier chocolate. I've noticed more and more dark chocolates for sale lately. And there are a few chocolates that are organic or sweetened with honey.

All of these things certainly make the chocolate healthier, but have you tried them? Being a milk chocolate lover, yet wanting to eat healthier, I bought some organic chocolate and some honey sweetened chocolate. It was all I could do to eat it. I decided I would rather enjoy my chocolate and eat healthier in other ways.

But I did find a healthy dark chocolate that I actually enjoy. Get this, the company went the second mile to create an ultra healthy bar of chocolate. First, they invented a patented cold processing method so that twice as many of the antioxidants are preserved. They don't alkalize their chocolate, so there is virtually no caffeine. Then they added the acai berry. This is another food very rich in antioxidants. In addition to that, they don't use fillers or milk and they sweeten with natural sugars. There is no other chocolate on the market that compares. So it's healthy, and it tastes good!

Here are some of the benefits people are gaining from eating this unbelievably healthy chocolate:

1. it is lowering blood pressure

2. some are experiencing weight loss

3. it is improving their teeth and gums

4. they have found benefits for the heart

5. it is helping with joint inflammation

This is not an exhaustive list, but you can see there are many benefits from eating this chocolate. Who would have thought? Who would have dreamed?
